Northanger Abbey is the least discussed Jane Austen novel. I love it. Henry Tilney is the only Austen hero with a sense of humor. All the television and movie adaptations of the novel on IMDb are listed below, excluding podcasts, audio books and shorts.
- Northanger Abbey (1952) — From the BBC anthology series, How Does It End? No idea whether this exists any more.
- La Abadía de Northanger (1968) — 10 part Spanish adaptation from an anthology series called Novela.
- Northanger Abbey (1987) — This 80s era BBC adaptation is a little weird. It stars Katherine Schlesinger as Catherine Morland, Peter Firth as Henry Tilney, Robert Hardy as General Tilney, and Googie Withers as Mrs. Allen. I was actually in Bath the summer they shot this. I saw horse-drawn carriages and ladies in regency dress outside the pump room.
- Ruby In Paradise (1993) — Apparently this Ashley Judd film was loosely based on NA. Who knew?
- Northanger Abbey (2007) — BBC adaptation written by Andrew Davies. This is the best version of those I’ve seen, with Felicity Jones as Catherine, JJ Feild as Henry Tilney, Carey Mulligan as Isabella Thorpe, Liam Cunningham as General Tilney, Sylvestra Le Touzel as Mrs. Allen, Hugh O’Conor as James Morland.
- Northbound (2015) — Modern take on NA as a vlog web series. It was removed from youtube, I don’t know where you can watch it now. 38 episodes.
- The Cate Morland Chronicles (2016) — Another web series, Cate writes for a fan magazine called Persona. She is obsessed with a tv series called The Mysteries of Udolpho (a novel by Anne Radcliffe that is referenced in NA). She goes to comic-con to host a panel on the show, which stars Henry Tilney. 38 episodes.
